Obituary of Lonny Lee Wanner

Lonny Lee Wanner, 67, of Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Middletown, went home to be with his Savior on Friday afternoon, September 23, 2022 at Hershey Medical Center following a long battle with cancer.  Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Earl C. Wanner and the late Ellen E. Brenner Wanner Tetzloff.

Lee accepted Christ’s gift of salvation and became a member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim.  He was the owner of Lee’s Scrap Removal.  He was widely known as he gathered discarded metal to recycle.  Earlier in his life, he was employed as a taxi driver in Harrisburg.

When an audience was present, Lee enjoyed being a “showman”.  He loved to dance and sing karaoke at The Social Club, American Legion, VFW, and other social clubs in the area.  He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and had a collection of Steelers memorabilia.  Lee was a generous person and took pleasure in giving gifts to others.

Lee is survived by a daughter, Kelly M. Witten, wife of Kevin D. Joy, of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; a sister, Jenny E., wife of William Corrigan, of Manchester, TN; and several nieces and nephews.  Lee would have been a great grandfather in December to a baby girl.  He was also preceded in death by five siblings, Earl S. Wanner, Sr., Harry C. Wanner, Harvey S. Wanner, Larry Wanner, and Mary E. Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday evening, October 9, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA 17545.  There is no public viewing.  The family will receive guests at the church on Sunday evening from 5:00 PM until the time of the service.  Interment will be private.  Casual attire and Steeler clothing welcome.  Please omit flowers.  If desired, contributions may be made to the benevolent fund of Chiques Church.  To express a condolence with the family or for additional information, visit www.simplefuneralspa.com.
